HALLOWEEN PARTY 2019

Settle your mask into place. It’s time for the Halloween Party to begin.

You have been invited to open this book to experience stories so macabre, so horrifying, that we must recommend you read them before dark. Make the unwise choice to read one of these unsettling tales just before switching off the light, and we cannot promise that you will live to see the next morning sun.

Thank you for coming to our party. It was nice to know you while you were among the living.

Writers wanted to join the Halloween Party

EVERY ODD YEAR Gravelight Press, the horror imprint of Devil’s Party Press, LLC, publishes a new volume of HALLOWEEN PARTY, the horror anthology that features short stories and poems relating to all things horror.

Submission dates (typically) run from July 1- to November 30 of the even year before, so, for the 2023 anthology, the submission dates were July 1, 2022, through November 30, 2022. Submissions for HP ’25 will open July 1, 2024. Selected authors are notified in January of the year of publication, so, for the 2023 anthology, selected authors were notified January 2023. Selected authors are paid for their stories, for 2023 the payment is $25 per story or for up to 3 poems. All published authors also receive a complimentary copy of the book, which typically retails for $14.99.

Yes, we often choose more than one story/poem from a writer.

Yes, to-date, all of our anthologies have garnered awards for the writing, editing, and book design.

We are gifted and light editors. We merely look for errors and plot holes; we never rewrite or take-over a story. We do not choose pieces that need developmental editing as a rule. It is important to us that we merely make sure your piece is shiny and perfect. We do not want to change it.

We encourage all mature writers to apply. We value and showcase the author over 40. We love diversity. We love being scared. We will typically reject stories that include or glorify rape, wanton animal cruelty, racism, and sexism. But we do like humor with our horror too.

There is, currently, a $10 reading fee. We are not funded by a university; we are writers trying to help other writers. As noted above, selected authors are paid $25 per story or for up to 3 poems, and will also receive a print copy of the anthology. We also provide selected authors, upon request, a press release they can send to their local media outlets.

Thanks so much for your interest in this ongoing project, and for supporting older authors.
